Winter Electricity
(Published in Avant Fall 2006)
I’ve always had a problem
zipping up zippers
and making buttons
slide into the right slots;
I end up stuck
or crooked
and not quite sure
how it could ever fit together.
But your jacket is the warmest
I’ve worn,
insulated with
electric Eskimo kisses
—funny how your socks
are the first out of my wash
and how your shorts
have a spot
next to my bed—
I love to shuffle over
‘til our toes touch,
and with the tips of our noses
we are
ZAPPED
into place.
