Self-Integrity
(Published in Avant Spring 2007)

               Last night I grabbed the lamp
               that lights the entranceway
               and swung;
               its base connecting to the mirror—
               my reflection, in its 2 by 4 foot frame,
               dismantled.

No.
I lied.
It didn’t happen,
but I lay in bed all night, so many nights
thinking of
               doing.

The difference
is only flashing synapse,
adrenaline bridging the gap;

               a matter of muscle movement.
