Add & Subtract

In math class
I wore eye glasses
that I didn’t need:
ineffective lenses
with tortoise shell frames,
just like the kind Emily had.

The students noticed,
the teacher noticed,

Emily noticed a pair of scissors
and my long braided hair.

I suppose we both had something
that the other wanted.
